No I didn't use any reinforment apart from a conventional trust rod, I use quite alot of cherry, in fact it is one of my favourite neck woods. It is pretty stiff stuff, talking to Colin he tells me that our Cherry is different to the Cherry it the states, I don't know how the two compare stiffness wise as I have never used the American Cherry.

Thank you my friend I'm a big fan of OOO's too, hope I'm calling it the right thing, as I always thought 24.9" scale made it OOO, but after the recent post on OM's and OOO i'm not sure :)

How does she sound? I have a set of Bob's Coco also and am curious to get a sence of sound comparision to some other woods. The Lutz Spruce I have is very often compared to european by those who use both so what I build will be similiar to yours, OMish though!

Very nice indeed!! Is that a cocobolo bridge and fingerboard too? How did you get on with coco - the dust has got quite a nasty reputation. What's the binding and yes - how does it sound?

Very Crisp on the trebles, with a strong Bass as you would expect from Coco.

I've never used Lutz, I use mainly European and am a big fan, but then of course I'm in Europe.

Is Lutz a sub species of Sitka or no relation at all ?

Yes it is Coco Fingerboard and Bridge, Bound with the some London Plane, I got on fine with the Cocobolo, I wore my Mask when doing any of the operations that involve making fine dust, and glove, after my first adventure with it I made sure my arms where covered too, as it sort of burns on your skin, not painful but I figured it was not a good sign, Wenge is the one that kill me, I can't use it.

I will have this one with me on Thursday, so you can have a play and see what you think to the sound, I can't make up my mind, I didn't want the bass to be over powering, some time I listen to it and I think the balance is right other times I think the bass is too strong. Mind you I am playing it upside down :) so I will be interested to see how it sounds in the hands of somone who can play it properly.RussellR38670.6567476852

Comes with instruction book and pick? Sounds like an ebay special. A 24.9 scale would make it a 000 in Martin nomenclature. If it ain't 25.4 scale 1-3/4" at the nut and 14 fret, it is a 000. Looks nice.

Russ that's beautiful. Is that some of BobC's zoot? Or from your supplier over "there"? Whomever, they did you proud! What glue did you use for the Cocobolo?

It came from my supplier over here, I just used normal titebond, I cleaned the edge of the plates with Naptha before gluing. the centre seam, I also did the same with the back spline and brace positions.

What is that binding?

It looks like you also used cocobolo for the fingerboared and overlay as well.

If that top is from the same litter as the one you sent me, then it is a fine top indeed.

The Binding is London Plane (it was the offcuts from the sides of the little parlour guitar I made) I bound the fingerboard with it as well, Fingerboard, Bridge and Overlay are Cocobolo My timber supplier got them from the surplus material after he sawed the sets. The Top is from the very same piece of wood as your one.

Wow, that's a great looking guitar! How do you like the Cherry neck? Does it seem to affect the sound in any particular way, and is it heavy? Great work!

Very nice Russell! That 000 is my favorite shape and I still haven't gotten around to building one yet. That sure is pretty cocobolo!

Lutz is a hybrid between Sitka and White Spruce. White Spruce is almost identical to Engelmann and really probably interchanged. So Lutz has the strength charcteristics of Sitka but the soft visual texture of Engelmann. This hybrization is unique to the area where I live.

You've done it again Russell, love the clean lines,Let the wood do the talking! I know where you got the Coco and Cherry, but who's the top from? The finish looks great again lets the wood do the talking. Who is this Lowden fellow anyway?

To me though it's an OM not a 000. I still follow the 14 fret flatter upper bout = OM, 12 fret more rounded upper bout =OOO.

Is this the sister set?

The finish is a bit of an experiment it is Danish Oil laid over a seal coat of shellac, theoretically it shouldn't work, but it has dryed just fine and seems pretty robust.

I was fortunate as my reaction to Coco seems pretty mild, I should say I run all of my machines with high volume extraction, used vacuum extraction on things like routers, and ROS. I also wore my Airace and a hood when producing fine dust.

I love the Short Scale, I use it alot.

I think I recognise that table saw, it looks like a set from the same board, you won't get a bad set out of Andy. If you haven't used it before get him to send you a sample piece so you can test your reaction to it.

I meant to say to you the walnut sets are massive, you could get almost two sets of sides out of them.

This Guitar is going into the Studio to be recorded at Acoustic Guitar Workshop on Friday, so I will send you a sound file. Steve Elliot will be playing it, and I'm hoping Rick Payne will be there too.

I really don't know on the OM/OOO definition I always based it on scale, but I am told this is not strictly correct. Martin I guess can do as they please with this definition as it is theirs.

Look, guys, it's not that hard...

Martin OM's ALWAYS have 1 3/4" nuts, 25.4" scale and 14-fret necks!

MANY Martin OOO's have the long scale and 14-fret necks, many others have the short scale and 12-fret necks, but NONE has all three of the above properties of the OM.

Any MARTIN deviations from the above are special orders and don't count in the basic designations of models.
