Up til now, I've only done Venetian cutaways, but I'm starting a commission with a Florentine. So how does everyone treat the binding at the point? I have several ideas, but I'm sure there are a few tricks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Pics are a big help.

Maybe John Mayes could do me a Florentine Cutaway binding DVD. How about it John? Thanks in advance.

There is a pretty good description (with b&w pictures) in the old LMI catalogue by Ervin Somogyi. Disclaimer: I've never done one!

I could be mistaken, but I think I saw one of John Maye's guitars that was so neatly done at the point that there was NO binding at all! The only one I've done is the one in the top corner of my website...curly maple binding, no way to hide flaws ...I just kind of winged it knowing that if worse came to worst I could rout it out and start over. I'm sure there's a great way to do it, I just hope someone chimes in here with it! Til then, I'm enjoying my Venetian cutaway attachment from John Hall!

I made my first one recently, it was my second guitar. I don't see the need to bind the point. Here is a picture before finish.
