One classical and one steel string cutaway. The classical is French Polish for a finish and the steel string is Catalyzed urethane.

Unfortunately Don I am a bit behind on the finishing DVD. It should be ready to go by the 15th of next month. In it I show how to do both the French Polish finish and the catalyzed urethane finish you see here on these guitars.

I guess I'm the lucky one! I get to spend the night with the steel string tonight playing it. It has very even tone, and very loud! I'm going to be road testing it tonight to try to flush out any playability issues. But first run through in standard, DADGAD, and CGCGCE tunings have been right on. This guitar is very easy to play too! This guitar is a real keeper.

I have seen several builders put side holes in. What is the reason for this?

Andy,

The purpose of side ports is that some of the sound is then directed toward the player so that they have a better sense of what is being heard by others...kind of like having a mini-monitor speaker pointed toward your ear. Some feel that it opens up the sound of the guitar.

Another feature of a side port other than sound is that it allows people to peer into the guitar to see the construction inside. If the inside is pristine then that can be a selling point.

There is no particular size for a side port...some like Classical builder Robert Ruck who drills 2 20mm holes in the sides on either side of the neck focus on function while other builders make the ports decorative shapes in varying sizes.

Actually, I got a few things to check off the honey do list then Christmas then a quick vacation to Brazil then the NAMM show and then 3 more guitars!
