Y Despite what you say, you've not shown any intention of being serious about building. You've simply shown that you like to talk about the ideas of guitars. The fine people here are busy. They have full time jobs, families, resonsibilities, etc. None of which you have to worry about, so I don't expect you to understand. Your friends would love to sit and chat for hours about things, but the people here simply have to much to do to engage you in meaningless chatter. Get busy doing things, not just talking about them. I think you'll be much better off.

Just some friendly advice.

I have been doing stuff. Im working on my first build now and have pics up on the forum. I cant always post pics. I do have, however building many instruments. Most I cant even play, but I have a desire to learn about it all. Mandolin, violin, cello, stand up bass, acoustic and electric bass&guitar etc...etc...

Wow! This skaknstro kid has posts all over the net offering his services as a guitarist/musician to game builders.

Makes me go hmmm?

Isn't there a way to close threads on here? You guys really upset me. All of you. Some of you are fed up and have decided now to express that, fine, great, let the cycle continue as it has forever, but some of you are being flat out immature. This thread must be closed, and shankstro, you really need to back off before you get kicked off this forum. Put your focus somewhere else and just chill out. My advice, give up thinking about or doing anything about instruments for the rest of the year and see if you still want to do it. I'm 100% certain that if you take a break from here for a few months and come back asking questions that actually challenge the minds and opinions of OLFers they'll have a whole lot more respect for you.

Skankstro, Take no notice of the grumpy old men on here. Some folk need to try and be less patronising. If i have no interest in a topic, i don't contribute, plain as. Too much time on their hands. I can see that you have a massive interest in building and should keep at it. Also, in regards to your heel joint problem (watch this, hey sttelnoj dont mix up threads. we don't like it and this is OUR forum), get some tools on your christmas list and take over the garage/shed. Just make sure you follow the manufacturers safety guidelines VERY carefully. I lost part of my thumbnail with a jointer and it wasn't a very nice lesson. But, lesson learned. Take it easy kidda, and good luck.

You don't unterstand, again, dude?

Asking 27 stupid questions at once is exactly the same than posting 27 stupid threads.

All your questions can be answered on Google in 60 seconds, or less. Or are just useless "polls".

Personal opinions, tastes and choices are... PERSONAL opinions, tastes and choices.

You can't make polls if you want, but it's not the place here. Or they have to be usefull or interesting, concerning something that haven't been discussed hundred times.

If you want opinion, ask musicians. They'll be your customers, if you become a luthier.

If you need help for building guitars, these are BOOKS, nice tutorials on the internet, luthiery school, etc...

THEN, if you're stuck... you can ask an inteliigent question here, and people will answer.

PLEASE, be respectful for the luthiers that are giving their time for you.

Try to be logic.

I hope you understand, now.

Francis
I agree with you dude.

Hey skankstro:

My name's Thomas, I'm 19, and I'm an aspiring young luthier, too. I spent countless weekends and late nights on the ol' google tubes just soaking up as much information as I could about every aspect of the build-process. I found a teacher, and started cutting some wood!

I'm getting close to finishing my first build, a thin-bodied archtop, and just finished applying another coat of Tru-oil a few minutes ago. I haven't posted many questions, because I've found that most of the answers I'm looking for are already somewhere on the forum. The search function is really handy in this respect. Please don't be discouraged, but be more thoughtful before posting. This is a great hobby, very fulfilling. Please enjoy your new hobby and READ READ READ as much as you can, from anywhere and everywhere.

Hey Skank,
None of the books have all the answers. Neither do any of the luthiers on this forum.
All you are going to get from this point forward is 50 different opinions from 50 different luthiers on the same topic. Instead of clarifying things for you, you will only have more questions, that is UNTIL you spend time building stuff.
In my early 20's I paid some guy to let me work in his shop, then I rented a warehouse for 5 years playing with tools and wood and stuff before completing my first instruments to my satisfaction.
My advice would be to get a job, buy some tools, find a space, and go at it for a while.
It seems to me that you really ask the same questions over and over, in different ways.
Nothing anybody says at this point will satisfy you until you've had some time hands-on.
I strongly have a feeling advice will be limited from this point on from this forum, until you start asking some questions that arise from experiences, not a gap in a book.
