I just got my first guitar back from Tony today. HE ROCKS!!!

I think this is the best finish I have on any of my previous guitars. He uses a cat urethane product and it is very clear and like glass.

If you are not equipped to do your own finishing, I HIGHLY suggest you give Tony a try.

He charges 350 plus shipping
Turn around 4-6 weeks
I don't know about other finishes

I am going to stick the tuners in it tonight and shoot some pics over the weekend. This is the Madonna guitar and it looks so cool with the hardware in it.

I know there have got to be people who do finishing here in Canada.

I may be totally wrong but I thought I remember reading that Linda Manzer has someone else finish her guitars. So maybe in the Toronto area. You could email her and see if she knows of someone who does finishes. Don't have a clue about BC. I have thought about getting someone else to do my finishes, but it is really one of my favorite parts of building. I think I will keep doing it myself.

something about "Made in Canada" that would not be so true.

Besides, I would think the shipping from BC to Michigan would be very expensive.

Jason, there are several small number builders here in the area. I would think you could get one of them to do the finish for you. I got my first one done by John Mcquary of Northwood Guitars, it turned out great.

I don't know if there is any problem. But going through customs can be a big hassle. It can also get expensive. It all depends on your method of shipping and what brokerage fees and taxes you end up getting hit with.

I don't think there should be any issues as guitars we manufacture are supposed to go across the boarder duty free under NAFTA. We are also discussing guitars which are not completed so again there should be no problem.

My experience is that it is easier (and usually cheaper) to deal with suppliers in Canada if possible. There are a lot of things which I can not get here so they come from the US. Most of my b/s wood as well as specialty tools from StewMac and those kind of things. There seems to be a few more suppliers for our industry popping up in Canada which is nice. I have gotten used to paying the extra charges and it gets factored into the price of the guitars.

I guess the thing to do would be to ask Tony if he has done any work for guys outside the US. If so does he charge anymore?
