Okay guys, here's the latest in the broken truss rod saga...I took the advice about cutting the rod case back to get at the threads...(was that you Mark?)...I figured that if I messed that up I could go for removing the f/b...my question now is what to do from here? Thanks!

Larry, that looks pretty good. Put the washer and the long nut back on, and you should be back in business.

Mark, my apologies...it was Mario...but, your advice is welcome also! Mario, the nut threw the nut in the trash after he trashed it (see if you can follow THAT! )...so, I have to get another one somewhere...as for the washer, it's AWOL too...but I think I can grind a regular round flat washer square on the outside to fit the rod...also, now that I have the rod exposed, it moves freely, so I don't know how the dude blamed it on glue in the case to begin with! I'll let you know how it turns out...I'm just thrilled that I wasn't indoctrinated on removing a f/b!

So, anyone know where I can buy a truss rod nut without having to buy the whole rod?

I'd get the whole rod if I can't find just a nut. Still cheaper than pulling the fretbopard would have been, right!

Or if you have a repair shop nearby, a lot of folks keep odds and ends like these nuts.

Whoah dude! Back up. Here's the skinny! (sorry bout the hijack)
Friday 3:30 ultrasound. Sent to hospital 4:30 to induce
Labor starts around 9PM
Stay up all night, short nap at 5 AM.
Delivery 9:40 AM. Saturday. (12 hours of overnight labor) Puts a new meaning to "OVERNIGHT DELIVERY"
No sleep till Sat PM.

All 3 were kids were late nighters!

Pix and (my own) post later. Gotta get the pics downloaded & then uploaded.

If you have trouble finding a nut (the kind for the end of your truss rod!) let me know, I can get some from the guy who makes the rods I sell, as long as they are the same thread (mine are 3/6 dia and 32 TPI).

I hate to buy a rod just for the nut, and then have a rod I'll just toss...if I was still in MI I had welding contacts who'd just make the thing up and make it work for me...but Collierville is a little too highbrow for that kind of thing, I guess...I'll check the stores tomorrow and see, and then let you know!

Larry, you could use a coupling nut there I think. Just get the size that you need. MSC sells them in almost all sizes as low as MSC sells them

Considering the nearly ubiquitous nature of that style truss rod, and the fact
that they basically all take a 5 mm hex key, I presume the one you got from
StewMac is an import with metric threads. You should use the correct nut, if
for no other reason than convenience for yourself and others who might
adjust it later.

I'll bet you can get a nut from them by simply calling the order desk and
telling your tale of woe. If that doesn't work, I think I might know where
there's a key to the back door. . .

Call Stewart MacDonald and ask for ERICK. They do have the extra nuts.
