Well I was carving a neck today and got a little too into it. In the first position I shaved it down to 1/2 an inch (not including the fretboard). I have a really large 2 way trussrod in it, but I'm not sure if this neck is trash or still good. The neck is a 1 piece spanish cedar neck BTW. Thanks, Brian

THat wouldn't be bad for me. I use an allied rod so not bad. I don't know what rod you are useing though.

That would depend on the trussrod size, which is ???
Would help to know how much wood is left under the rod!
e.g. 10 mm rod would leave only 2,7 mm wood - I've been told 3mm is about a minimum.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Another option would be to add two carbon fibre rods on either side of
the truss rod. You'd have to slot all the way into the headstock to get
the strength back, so you'd have to redo any peghead cover layer- don't
know if you've got one on it or not. If not, it'd be easy to add one after
bonding in the fiber rods. LMI has 3/16"x1/4" rods, or 1/4"x3/8" that
would work, Not cheap though. Depends on how attached to this neck

it's a martin 2 way. I got it from the martin GMC over the summer. It's blue if that helps.

What's the depth needed for that rod? You should have .13" left to be safe. Clinton
