Im building a 34" scale 5 string neck thru bass. Neck is a 6 piece maple- walnut- wenge laminated construction. I wonder do I need to use carbon fiber rods to stiffen up the neck or 2 way truss rod works just fine?

Thanks

Juss

you would probably be fine with out Cf, but if you have the budget adding CF never hurts. or you could do dual truss rods as another alternative. if you are wanting to go really thin with the neck, then i would say definitely use the CF, but if its just going to be an average neck its not going to hurt anything to do with out.

Thanks Shad
Yeah the neck is going to pretty normal. 20mm @ 1st fret and 22mm @ 12 th fret. Atleast I tink its pretty average.
How do you install the Cf rods ? Do you glue them to the channel or just leave unglued like trussrod?

Thanks

Juss

I glue them in place with epoxy. I would hate to not glue and later find a rattle.

DEFINITELY glue them in. I would only use epoxy for this job.
I locate the CF bars as far apart as I dare, (leaving a minimum 3mm of material under the bar after finish sanding) given the neck profile I'm going for.
