That's wonderful, David.
Fine job on the maple.
Love to hear your thoughts on its sound...especially how you would compare/contrast to rosewood.

Steve

Thanks Steve, one of the things I did to keep the response of this guitar closer to a rosewood one was to increase the relative thickness of the back.
I make a rosewood back from about 2.3-2.5 mm depending on species (Brazilian thinner, E.I. thicker). This one I left at a full 2.7 mm and would have left the sides slightly thicker than normal but decided to keep them at 2mm anticipating they might be difficult to bend. As it turned out they bent like butter but since my client had purchased this set from Germany at fairly high expense I didn't want to take any chances.
This guitar soundwise compares quantitatively to my rosewood guitars (soundclips recently posted at http://www.guitarsbydavidlaplante.com ) in terms of brightness, balance, loudness etc. Qualitatively it might be a tad drier sounding with slightly fewer overtones.

David, when I quit screwing up practically finished guitars, I'll pull out that top and the Brazilian! :D

Looks excellent! Funny I am working on a maple guitar too and my rosette has the same interlocked meander combination like on your bridge! Great minds.. :D

Beautiful guitar, as all yours. Is that a slot in the saddle between the 3rd and 4th strings? Clinton

No, the saddle is one piece. It's just the interface between the ramping of the saddle for intonation. The right (treble) section of the saddle (looking at the photo) is ramped diagonally back from the high E to the G string providing progressively more compensation.
The ramping repeats on the bass side from the D string to the low E.
Here's a shot of another guitar of mine which shows it better:

David, did you do FP with the bridge already attached?

No, the bridge is polished off the guitar and the top is polished without bridge or masking in the bridge location. The bridge is located (I use two locator pins through the saddle slot) scribed around and the finish is removed underneath.
