I have a number of Quicktime movie files that I want to post on my webside, including some movies of Rita Chirrelli when she first received her new guitar, and am wondering how to go about doing it. I want to know what is the best format to save them in and how as well as how to do it. Obviously I will need smaller files that can be downloaded easily but I don't want to loose quality. When I go to export it gives me all sorts of options but I don't know what to do. Maybe my problem is in uploading them (I use Front page) When I go to my website www.arveyguitars.com they show up on my computer but other people say they don't show up on their computers.

On another note, I just found out that Rita Chirelli is getting ready to record a new CD on which she will play her Arvey Guitar Exclusively which is really exciting.

I think you can do it with Quicktime Pro (only $20 I think..make sure it does what you want as I'm not sure) I can do it with my editing software so if you can't find anyway to do it I'd be happy to do it for you.

I think I've got quick time pro. the question is what am I trying to do? There are all sorts of formats I can convert it to, 3G AVI BMP DV Stream, hinted movie MPEG 4 Quick time Media Link, Quick time Movie, Image Sequence. I've tried a few but when I try to upload them to the internet I can open them on my computer but no one else can. If you check out my website you will see where I have tried to upload them. It may also be that the files are just to large but I don't know

Richard, I tried the links and also couldn't get the movies to play. Good luck I'll check back again when you are ready for a test.

well .mov wouldbe the smaller and better quality video, and that is what I use, but a mpeg 4 would be more widely viewable as not everyone has or wants quicktime.

I would try to keep the file size under 5-7MB if possible.

Some of yours are.avi files which are complicated files (nice quality however) and not a bunch of players can play them currently (quicktime can, but again not everyone has that)

You could even make a .wmv file and that would cover 90% of the computers out there.John Mayes38688.9906018519

most are saved as .mov files but they are big files. More like 13-80 megs. Maybe that is the problem. I will upload an MPEG 4 file that is smaller to see if that works. Only one file currently on my web is an AVI file even though two say they are. The rest are .mov files. How do you make .mov files smaller? I really have no experience with this.

I've uploaded the Mpeg 4 file and it seems to work but it is really small. I've also uploaded a really small.mov file to see if that works. the .mov file is "Rita Chiarelli With her new Grand Concert, Part 1(B)" and the Mpeg 4 file is "Kevin cook playing an Arvey OM, part 2" if someone could check to see if these work I could then try playing around to see how to get them bigger and better but still work. There are just so many options for Movie settings with Quick time including compression export size setting etc I don't know where to start.arvey38689.1284837963

IIRC Quicktime is simply Apple's implementation of MPEG4, and is no better at compressing things than AVI (in DivX or Xvid varieties) or hidef WMV. The downside to newest WMV codecs: many (like me) won't bother to get the new versions from MS, because the requrie big, slow, annoying players. Xvid/Divx codecs can be downloaded for free, but many people don't have them pre-installed.

The only truly universal codec, methinks, is MPEG1 video. And that's hugely bulky.

Unfortunately I don't know how to convert to Mpeg_1. has anyone been able to try the two new files to see if they work? Actually the very first file now is also one I reduced.arvey38689.4574074074

Richard,

They both play fine for me on Quicktime. The first one is about 4"w x 3" h, the second about half-size.
