I just did another video, since I was getting requests for one, and it is all about using a couple of touch probes I made, that help me to very precisely index my machine before cutting:

That's some good stuff, and a couple dollars for an XYZ finder isn't too shabby! Reminds me that I really need to get this old Renishaw I got off of eBay set up...I'm still using a gage block and a wiggler!

Quite interesting. Couple of questions for you and a comment:

How round is a copper pipe?

Rather than a pin in the center, have you considered making a corner type jig - seems like that would be more useful. If you made the sidewalls shallower and made the base out of e.g. Al, you could find X,Y, and Z without changing gadgets.

comment: you have to ditch the gloves! You're making instructional videos showing a dangerous practice. I don't know, maybe you're taking them off before any machine turns on but you should at least mention it.

Yes, a corner type jig is also possible, and like I mention, you can easily adapt this to use a single jig for both edge finding, as well as height, z-axis adjustment.

I am sure that when you get your CNC machine, you will probably create something like this, and then you can let us all know how you did it....it is always interesting to see what other people come up with....so far, this method has worked quite well for me, and for the type of machining I do, fits me quite well...

Yes, I know, you have something against gloves...I do not use them when running machines, just when I am doing videos...so people do not have to see my GREEN nails!
