Hey, I just spotted an Anigre board at the local hdwd store.
Quarter sawn, and about $8 a bd ft.
Nice tight straight grain.
I like!
Who has used it? What are the properies/tone/political correctness?
The board would yield 3 backs, and 4 side sets,
for a weiss style. $100. Whaddya think?

I haven't used it personally, but it looks nice. Here is a pretty good article that talks about its workability as a wood species.

I have some very nice curly anigre in my stash. I think I got it from the Zootman (BobC at RC Tonewoods, one of the forum sponsors) a couple years ago. It feels kind of like mahogany/sapele as far as workability goes. Seems like it will make a very nice guitar at some point....

I did some googlin' about,
and well, it's not very durable,
and on the edge of soft/hardwood,
I'd better get it while it's there.
Ever see a board that says "buy me!".
This one's sayin' that to me.

Do you remember how thin you made the sides?
Weiss luckily doesn't have sharp bends,
that's what i be buildin".

wow Those look nice. Thanks for the pics. They look to me somewhat like figured maple. What is that you use to bend the cutaway with again?

I haven't built a guitar yet with anigre but have gone through 400-500 bd/ft. of the stuff on furniture and cabinetry. It definitely blunts tools badly. This came as a surprise because of it's mahogany-like grain structure. I don't think this will matter that much on one guitar, though. Tone is supposed to be killer.
