Hi Folks,

Movingui is a West African timber which is beginning to gain some popularity as a back and sides wood. I'm lucky to have found a little information on the wood.

I don't have permission to reproduce the photos and text here so for the full presentation, please check it out here: http://www.guitarbench.com/2011/03/09/m ... d-profile/

Warmest regards,
Terence

I'm building one out of birdseye Movingui right now. Unfortunately I had some chip out on the rosette that I though I had managed to fix, but it reappeared. So right now, I am re-topping it.

I'll let you know about the sound in a few weeks when it's back together.

Here's some picture...I think it is beautiful wood and the tap tone was incredible.

That's a gorgeous piece of wood. I really like the figure on the sides near the port. Also, looks like an expensive wood too. When will someone come up with a gorgeous, well figured, and cheap tone wood that sounds great? Yeah, proabaly never. lol

It's not THAT expensive. RC has a set up for $135 right now. I got a similar looking set from Simon Fay a while back and the tap is quite remarkable. Has that high pitched ting like Brazilian and Honduran rosewood, but it's lighter weight and a little mahogany-ish as well. Can't wait to build it up, but there are a lot ahead of it in the list. I think it will make a great tonal match with redwood... not so sure on the visuals, but I'll come up with something.

Thanks for the entry, Terence. Nice to know a little bit about the tree the wood comes from.

The pics make that wood look like it's highly textured. Can you feel the figure? Or is tha an optical illusion?

Just an optical illusion Mike. Has a deep 3D look under finish.
