Have any of you had problems with the LMI white glue chalking at fairly warm temperatures? I have had my shop at about 62-64 F. And it still won't dry clear.

How old is it? I can't recall exactly, but I think I remember LMI as saying it's
got a shelf life of only a year or so. You might want to check with them.

Colby - I have used LMI white for about 5 years and never had that problem. I replaced my bottle (if its not used up) every 6 months or so.

I use the same replacement schedule as Lance, the unused glue is good for household stuff. The containers are good for storing other fluids and stuff as well. The empty ones make a great "compressed air" bottle when squeezed quickly.

It's not 6 months old yet. I always write the date on the bottle as soon as I get it. I don't no what the deal is.

I would just replace it and see what the results are, although I have never had a bad experience with LMI glue, every now and then you can get a bad batch. The Godin guitar company went through that several years ago and had to stop production on many of there acoustics until it was sorted out.

When all else fails, clean the shop.

I started using LMI's glue this year. It has completely replaced Titebond in
my building schemes. I still use a tremendous amount of hide glue on
critical parts of the guitar but LMI's glue is used for everything else. I cannot
recommend it enough!!

This is off the bottle I have right here. "If it smells sweet it's good. If it smells sour use it as a household glue, but not on instruments."

I don't really notice a sour smell with the old bottles, but like Lance (and others) I change bottles every 6 months or so.

I use the old ones on "general wood working" and have never had a problem... but that is not an endorsement for ignoring the expiration dates....

62-64 degrees fairly warm? Never used LMI glue but seems you are verging on too cold. Temperature can vary
significantly around your shop in the cooler months. Where are the glue ups and glue stored and where is your thermometer located? Chances are it isn't the glue.

Colby: I had LMI chalk on me one time but it was attributed to cold weather and not the glue. I don't remember the temperature but I now try to glue above 70*F and have never had any problems since.

I think there is a good chance the problem is that it is just to cold. I heat the shop with an electric heater. The bills are really high this year and I was trying to keep it as cool as possible. I guess I'll try warming it up a good bit and see how it does. However, you don't have this problem with Titebond. 60 F is plenty warm for it.

Titebond says not to use under 50?, but I've heard of it chalking when it's
used under 60?. That might be true of other PVA glues like LMI's. They can
