The DVD set.....I'm about to voice a couple of tops, and I'm just learning this stuff. Do you recommend this lesson set as a good thing?

Sincere thanks; Michael

Definitely. I've watched them a couple of times. A nice mix of guidelines(rough measurements), theory, and practical application. Having said that, I'm just working on #4 and 5, and am just about to put some of that info to use for the first time.

He's also an enjoyable, engaging teacher. Short of Somogyi's 5-day voicing class ending up on DVD, this is probably as good as it gets.

Thanks Steve...I'm on #4 also. I'll give it a try.

I haven't seen Kent's DVD, but I would highly recommend John Mayes's Advanced Voicing DVD. It's very informative and costs very little.

I found both Everett's and Mayes DVDs helpful. If I had neither, I would probably get the Mayes videos first.

If I had to chose out of the 2 I found John Mayes DVDs far more to my way of thinking

The Mayes Voicing video was what got me started, I like how he records the sound of the taps as he progresses, listen carefully there is lots of info in the sound as he works. I was loaned the Everett DVD after I had done quite a few tops and found it interesting but I am glad I started with Mayes.

I have both the Mayes and Everett voicing DVDs and I agree with others who suggested getting the Mayes DVD first. It is focussed more on brace carving and when to do what. I found the Everett DVDs interesting and informative, with perhaps a broader focus, but his methods of brace "carving" are bit unconventional and as a small time builder I prefer John's approach, but there are some very insightful bits of information in Kent's DVDs and he does a good job presenting them. Both are very good, though.

BTW - I have all of John's DVDs and find them all very good, and entertaining. 8-) I also have Robbie's DVD and find it excellent as a 30,000 level view of the entire acoustic guitar building process.

I have both the Everett and Mayes DVD's and think they're great complements for each other. I love that John's has the examples of varying levels of resonance, and Kent's has a lot of great tidbits as well.

I have just completed construction of #5 (not finished yet...) Would I bennefit (should I get) the Voicing 101 DVD? ...or just go with the advancing voicing DVD?

If you have already completed a few instruments go for the advanced voicing one. the voicing 101 is basic brace making, gluing, placement and some carving. Things you probably already have a handle on.

And thanks everyone for the nice words. I'm glad I've been a little help in your journey.
