Z Poxy and KTM-9 from LMII. I did wipe it down today with denatured alcohol at 150 grit and it looked fantastic. I can't wait to start.

My shower was the best place to hang it to dry. It's tough finding space in an apartment.

A few updates below. Bending the sides, kerfing and rough pictures of the body. I have to say the most frustrating part of this process as of now has been the kerfing glue up. No one told me I would be cursing up a storm and throwing things around my shop during this part!! I learned a trick off of a video online. I soak my kerfing strips by spraying them with distilled water. They then bend easily during glue up.

Bought an LMI Side Bender. Worked very well, and I am spoiled.

My least favorite part so far...

Before some cleanup work. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

Hey A.J.,

I appreciate you posting your build. You are doing a good job so far! What kind of wood are you using for the bodies? Also you might want to try and soak your kerfing and pre-shape them before gluing. THey won't break. I saw that on a video. Thanks.

Sean

Sean,

Back and sides are African Mahogany, top is Bearclaw Sitka, the neck is Honduras Mahogany, and the fretboard is Gaboon Ebony. I appreciate the comments. Right now I'm attempting the finish which may steal the kerfings title as least favorite part of the build. I think I must have applied the finish 3 times only to resand because it looks terrible.

Well tonight marks the completion of my first build and what an experience it was! Here are some photos. I think I'll post a conclusion in the next week or so. Thanks to everyone who followed along.

Wow. That turned out great. I hope you're pleased with it. I have to say though, every time you posted a picture of the two tops with the butcher block background, I wondered why you included a picture of a wooden wine glass. My eyes just wouldn't see it right.

Nice looking work, and here is some free advice. Use safety glasses when screwing around with go bars! One of mine shot across my shop a few months ago, luckily it just missed my face and I had no eye protection. I'll never do that again. It scared the crap out of me!

Nice looking guitar. How's the other coming. Props to you for building those in an apartment too. Next time think about using narrower bracing on the top. 1/4 in stiff, vertical grain braces do the trick with less weight (cube rule). Also, the strips of wood glued to the sides to offer more gluing surface for the top and back plates are called "linings," not "kerfing." Kerf, technically, is the term for the cut made into some linings (like the ones most of us use) to facilitate easy bending. So, you were using kerfed linings if that makes sense. But some linings, like on many traditional classical guitars, are solid with no cuts. I care very little about the distinction, but use of the incorrect term on this forum is generally met with good humored haranguing.

Keep up the good work. If you are ever in KC, feel free to stop by and see what's going on in my basement shop. Not too fancy, but sometimes some good things get built down there. I miss living so close to Grizzly. MSU grad
