I have a customer that wants me to build him a Nick Lucas style guitar. Do any of you know where I can get dimensions for drawing the outline?

P.S. Not the really really old ones. Something like a 1930's model.

This probably won't be a lot of help to you but take a look at this site. www.beneteauguitars.com. Marc builds a Nick Lucas style guitar. You will find it on his models page. Not much info but a lot of pictures.

Just thought I would pass that along.

You will also find a bit more info on the feature guitar page.

Shape is the same as a L-00 but depth and appointments are different. I don't have the Dimensions on me now but I have made one a while back for a customer and it turned out nicely. Just took my L-00 mold and adjusted depth.

That is exactly what I made my first guitar like, a 000-13 fret, liked the idea and it seemed to work really well. I mentioned in a post yesterday about a player review of this guitar, one of the things he mentioned several times about the sound of this guitar was how unique it's tone was....he couldn't figure it out, but he loved the tone, very sweet, open, clear, and loud is what he said.

Take a look at my Carribean 13 and 13s. These are modeled after the
original 13 fret to the body Nick Lucas guitars. There is a lot of info for you
here. These
instruments are getting alot of attention and I am building another as we
speak ( a very fancy one) of the very special (FWW 1985) quilted mahogany
and red spruce.

I have tracings and specs for a 1926 NLS. Specs are on my website under the "Models" button. Look for the "Skeeter" which is my rendition of the guitar in question.

I build quite a few L-00 style guitars, and they are based on the newer Nick Lucas Gibsons. Gibson made them using a few different shapes, but I always liked the L-00 shape.
Jamie Unden and I designed a plan for this guitar, and it is available from the MIMForum, at www.MIMF.com

I got that plan from the mimf some time back. Nice plan. I picked up the 59' Les Paul Jr plan there too. Also good stuff.

L-00's rock!

Colby,

I've got a 1937 Gibson L-00. If you want a body tracing, send me a PM with your address and I'll drop it in the mail next week.

It also depends on which Nick Lucas You're customer is interested in. (according to my info)The Original 1928 Nick Lucas had the dimensions that Tim mentions above but was a 12 fretwith a 24.25" scale. In 1929 it went to 14.75" with a 24.75" scale and then to a 13 Fret in 1930 and 14 fret in 1934. They were discontinued in 1941. I build mine with the Larger dimensions and ussually a 25.4 Scale which is amazing.

Bruce, thanks for the offer. I may have to take you up on that. I think I'll try drawing my own first though, now that I've got some dimensions. Thanks!
