I've got some old Dimarzio's that I plan to put in a Les Paul copy. Are the wiring kits from Stew-Mac any good? If not, where can I find a pre-assembled kit, or a place that I can put a kit together for less than $50?

Ebay is always good. You can pick up the components for pretty cheap. I just bought some components from the sellers bezdez (cheap, long time to ship) and hildrethja (couple bucks more but still really cheap, closer to me). No way you should pay $50, even assembled with an output jack plate.

I used the SM kit for my LP build - it worked fine. Generic parts, but everything was included - including the correct style switch. You'll need to make some choices about pots (value and shaft length) and caps. Also, they included instructions for the "new" wiring configuration that is somewhat different from the classic LP. I'm an electrical engineer and it works the same, but might be confusing if you are looking at the traditional wiring. Their wiring diagram does not show a ground to the bridge, minor detail but folks here did recommend it when I asked.

I would guess that you could buy four pots, a couple of caps, a jack and switch, and some hookup wire for less than 50 bucks at Radio Shake, but the SM kit was very convenient. Of course you can also get some of those $130 bumble bee copies from Gibson.....
