I would like some advice for a problem I have with switching between pedals.

I've got a distortion pedal and overdrive pedal.
I always play with either the distortion or the overdrive but never both together.
Problem is, switching between them (turning one off and the other on simultaneously) is inconvenient.

I want to build a pedal that will switch between them.
That way they are both on all the time and I just tap the pedal to choose which one I want to forward to the amp.
This means I need to split the guitar cord so it goes into the effect pedals separately and then they'll both be outputted to the selector pedal.
The selector pedal will consist of 2 inputs --> 1 toggle switch --> 1 output (to amp).

Any simpler ideas for a solution ?

You could pretty easily build an AB looper (as in, FX loop, not delay looper), using 6 1/4" jacks, a 3pdt switch (or dpdt, if you don't want an LED indicator), and a small aluminum enclosure. Basically it would be built just like any other True bypass loop you find, except the jumper on the switch that bypasses the loop would connect to another loop.

I may already have a diagram doodled up... I'll check.

Here's a very crude doodle, but should give you the idea. You'd put one effect in each loop (send->input, output-> return), and the switch toggles back and forth between them. This drawing shows LED indicators as well, but if you don't need them you can ignore them, and the 9v connections and resistor as well. You also won't need to use a stereo jack on the input to disconnect the battery when the input is unplugged. You can also use a Dpdt, disregarding the middle column on the switch below. Without LEDs there no need for power, it will be completely passive.



If you want to use LEDs, and want to wire up a DC jack for a power supply/daisy chain that is also doable.
