I'm looking to replace an old rotary tool I bought almost 10 years ago. There seems to be a bunch more available on the market today. What is your favorite brand/model for a rotary tool? My main use will be for routing rosette channels. I use full size routers/laminate trimmers for just about everything else.

Thanks!

John

John I use a small makita laminate trimmer for rossette, I find it more stable altough I am only comparing to my old dremel.

Don't quite know how good it is yet but Craig Holden has a tool here that seems to be copy of a foredom. I actually ordered one from him but it hasn't arrived yet. You could ask Craig about the quality as he uses it on some of his jigs.

I use hi speed die grinders , they turn at 70,000 rpm.   I use them for inlay work and you won't find a smoother cut. They are designed for steel and work like a dream in wood and pearl.
Martin and Dave Nichols use them now. Dremel and foredom are way to slow with run away a problem. You do need a good compressor.
