Hi, my name is Al. I'm not a guitar builder. I am a musician. The reason why I joined this forum is because I need to know if any luthiers out ther are using madagascar rosewood. I will explain why down the road.

thank you for your time.

There's more than one type of rosewood from Madagascar, which type are you referring to?

And yes, I think everyone here is very aware of the problems associated with a lot of wood that comes from Madagascar, if that's where you're going.

That post has the same feel to me as an undercover cop trying to buy drugs; "Hey there brother man, know where I could score some bomb-fresh Honduras Rosewood? Freeze! Undercover wood police!"

thank you all for your reponses. to MikeH, no, i'm not an undercover anything. to Filippo Morelli, i'm sorry if i insulted you. to everybody else, i will tell you why i 've asked the question. i read an article in national geographic called MADAGASCAR'S PIERCED HEART. the one thing that hit me was about what the locals have to do to make money logging madagascar rosewood. the story tells of what they have to do, how far they have to travel, and the major risks they have to face to make a small profit. i don't want to say too much in this forum, but would any of you be interested in a copy of the story? if so, here is my email address, and you can give me your mailing address. don't worry MikeH, you won't get a letter bomb.

thanks.

I like fudge!
Anyway, I care about human lives.
I also care about Lemurs,
(maybe more so than humans,
because they don't have a choice, or say in the matter!)
Also, if all we cared about was "the almighty dollar",
do you think we would be building guitars?
I am using local woods only,
when all my exotics are used,
which I purchased many years ago.

Oh man, what a pompous, self-righteous POS this bass-playing joker is. Reads an article and all of a sudden he's champion of the downtrodden people of a country he didn't know existed 5 minutes ago. Just a typical internet troll with an Occupy flavor tossed in.

Look at me Mom, I'm outraged and appalled! gaah

I'd like a cookie....and some Mad rose. Every time I see someone on here ask a vague question with the promise of details later (it doesn't happen alot) it always leads to something rediculous. But I do love seeing everyones response.

Hey! Does anyone here build guitars?
I read this great article in Fine Woodworking about how to build a kit guitar. I can snail mail you a link to the article. Send me your address. I promise no Feds will come knocking!

Hey Tony, I went to your site,
and noticed you build guitars out of koa.
You really shouldn't do that.
It's not allowed anymore.
Start building with plastic.
That way you will only be screwing up the environment,
instead of screwing up the environment.
