This baby is done, for competition purposes at least.

1.36lbs, 24" long, 9.5" lower bout width. Longest harp string is 19.75", neck strings fan from 15.25" to 14.75".

Strings are D'addario, gauges low to high: 32, 29, 27, 27, 27, 21, 14, 11 (last two are plain steel, rest are PhosBronze)

Budget:
Redwood top: $15 from Darren Hippner
Black walnut back/sides: $40 from Brad Goodman
Bridge: Pecan, free from Ernie Kleinman, but let's value it at $3
Fingerboard and bridge plate: Texas ebony, $10 from Dave Newton
Binding: Black cherry, $5 from local hardwood store
Neck, tail block, and harp headstock: Black walnut, $4 from local hardwood store
Fretwire: $5 from StewMac
Bracewood: Redwood, $3 from Allied Lutherie
Linings: Made from top offcuts, and thus free
Headplates: Black locust, free from Ernie Kleinman, value at $1 since I had to slice them by hand
Inlay materials: Curly rock maple, curly koa, mulberry sapwood, osage orange, black cherry, black walnut, green abalone. Mostly scraps, but let's say $3 in inlay materials.
Bridge pins: Boxwood, $8 from LMI. These violate the local materials rule.
Tuners: Indian rosewood friction pegs, $16 from LMI. These also violate the local materials rule.
Saddle: Unbleached bone, $3 from Colonial Tonewoods
Strings: $12

Total: $128

Frets still need leveled, and there are a few cosmetic things to do at some future date, but here are the final photos.








Here is a video I shot while out taking pictures. It was windy and my camera doesn't take great audio to begin with, but you can hear the general character of the sound at least. Not the most interesting to watch, since I just stare blankly at the fretboard while playing

Wow! What a tragedy and recovery!
Those side position markers are excellent! I had been considering doing the same thing with thin copper pipe but let the idea go at some point. With your help, I think I might be able to do it!
I can't see the video from work but I am sure it sounds like a stringed instrument. I will check the vid from home tonight. Really well done and I enjoy your paintings inside the box.
