The first one in you new set looks like a Louis as in Louisville Slugger Bats.

On your second round of wood - the first board looks like ash and the second may be a mahogany or ipe - definitely not box elder.

The first three I'd say are doug fir, gum and red oak. I'm a cabinet maker and have worked with all three, I'd say I'm at least 90% sure on these. I'm not sure if both of the second pieces of wood aren't Jatoba, aka Brazilian cherry. The last one definitely looks like jatoba. One sure way to test it is to try and run it through your power planer. When it goes in it should shake your fillings loose and instantly dull your knives.

Regarding the second set of lumber, that first board looks like Cherry to me, though I'm not confident about that.

That second board looks an awful lot like the African Padauk I'm trying to build a banjo neck out of, at the moment (purely out of curiosity--and for visual effect). It's dense and heavy, but has a pleasant, musical ring to it when I give it a light rap with my knuckles. If you plane a shaving off of it, you should find a brilliant blood-orange color underneath. Exposed to the air for just a few weeks, though, it will darken to that chocolate brown (or purple-brown) color that you described. In my very limited experience with it, I've found the grain of African Padauk to be a bit of a bear; at least in the batch I've got, there are lots of tight streaks running in opposing directions. Regardless of which direction I plane it, the resulting surface alternates smooth-rough-smooth-rough, with lots of opportunities for tear-out. Then again, maybe I need to do a better job sharpening my plane! Also, the sawdust is oily/sticky. I had to wipe down my workbench, rather than just vacuum it up.

You're lucky--the only reclaimed lumber I ever stumble across are warped 2x4s and pine moulding. Have fun!
