Anyone use this before? Hardens like lacquer but non toxic. Water based. Can be brushed on.

I'm thinking about trying it.

I've sprayed it on a few acoustics,
and I like it.
They still look good after 5 years or so.
The buzz on the acoustic side of the forum is that ktm 6000 (?) is better.

I have switched to KTM-9 exclusively, starting with nitro, then the original StewMac water based and now KTM-9. Mike Doolin used if for quite a while (I think he has switched to a catalyzed poly) and of course, his guitars are simply stunning. Here is a thread with a couple of pictures of one of mine (the pore filler was Zpoxy - seems to work fine with KTM)

The LMI site has lots of information about it and there was an article in American Lutherie a while back about brushing it.

Some tricks - I mostly spray it, but this should work for brushing also. I spray 3 coats per day (you may want to only brush one) and scruff sand to about 320 each day. When I clean my gun, I use first water, then Denatured alcohol, and leave a little DA in the gun. The next day I sand out any runs and dust, then shoot a mist coat of the DA, dump the gun, put the KTM in and spray the first coat. The DA will soften the surface just enough for the next coat to melt into (just like nitro) - doing this I've never had witness lines (I did get them with the StewMac water based).

OK, here is my LP clone, KTM-9 with StewMac stains for the 'burst. There is stain both applied directly to the wood and mixed with the finish.

I forgot to add to the previous post that if you are brushing I would still recommend the alcohol trick before the next coat. Just wipe the guitar down with a cloth and a little DA, that will both clean the surface and tack it slightly. I also used DA to thin the KTM rather than water. Soapy water is fine for clean up, however.
