So how does one work out a contour map like Todd did there if starting from scratch. Is there a tutorial somewhere? Or a primer of the basic principles of designing an arch that will work?

He used the arch templates that were in a previous picture. Then they placed them on the outline and plotted the depth of the arch at each position on the template. Once that is plotted, he connected the dots to get the topographic representation.

**just noticed Todd's post above -

*** Nice work guys !!

I'm now curious as to the advantages of a fharging f hole as compared to a standard, run-of-the-mill f hole?

I can see that Todd and I have a lot in common. We both make instruments, we’re both swell lookers and neither one of us is Chinese.

As the late, great, Freddie Prinze would say "looking good!" bliss
I must say I'm a little disappointed in the fharging f holes, I don't see any difference from normal f holes. I guess they must just sound different!

So petting the dog is not a euphamism, or just not receding to his "girlfriend?" BTW, it is too bad you aren't allowed in his thread. It is easily the funniest thread in OLF history, probably the history of the interweb!

I'm not sure whether I'm more upset about how good they look so far or how fast they're going together! [uncle]
I feel like we're being tag-teamed, but hey, I never had a chance to win that chisel anyway! laughing6-hehe

Just curious, but what do you consider to be the advantages of an arched back on a non-soundpost instrument like this? I like flat backs.

Looking great so far [:Y:]
