I wasn't sure what the "fancy red toothbrush" actually was so I went to look. Here is the mystery object:

Oh thank goodness! After Fillippo's comment I watched the video, I was beginning to think I didn't know what was going on here. Fortunately Tony removed all doubt.

Only when it's late at night and nobody is around.

Chris Ensor, you care. I can tell because you spent too much time on your post trying to pretend you don't care.

Bryan Bear, Dumbledor is not dead. He is alive and well and shackled in the basement of Costa Guitars. Not shackled by me not my staff because we don't hold people against their will. He has been shackled by choice. The dude is a big fan of that "50 Shades of Grey" book and he has a bunch of women down there with him who also enjoy the BDSM lifestyle. Personally, it's not for me, but to each his own. As long as he keeps my hand saws working by them selves, I don't care what that sick bastage does!
On a side note, Costa Guitars just hired this guy to protect the voting thread so everyone votes for me. He will protect my victory. Or get his limbs chopped off. Either way, it will be fun for me to watch.

I don’t want to call you a liar or anything but your story doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. J.K. Rowling herself said that he doesn’t swing that way. Perhaps it is you he is after. Don’t be so sure you will win, I have an ace up my sleeve. I intend to do a little voter intimidation. I already have an ad on craigslist:

Help wanted

Seeking being (supernatural or otherwise) of flexible scruples to aid uninformed voters. Qualified applicants will have big-nasty-pointy teeth, a working knowledge of MS office and a strong back. Must be willing to travel, able to lift 200 lbs. and speak farsi.

No fatties.

Now that you mention it, there are a lot of dudes down there with Dumbledor and the ladies. I never spend much time down there. Gives me the willies to see Dumbledor in a man-diaper and ball gag.

My headstock requires wings. So I took it and poured some RedBull on it. When that didn't work, I cut some small sticks from my original big mahogany stick and made little wings. Glued 'em on too! See?
Image

Up next: Not sure. I might fret the neck while the glue dries. My fret board arrived from Hana Lima while I was on vacation but I neglected to find out if a different type of fret wire was needed. I only have Stew mac or LMII fret wire. I hope they fit in the kerfs.

On a serious note, I have a budget/ valuation question. A while back I ordered 80 inches of 1/16th inch abalone purfling from Andy DePaule. He must have sent me close to 100 inches. Since I only used a bit more than 70 for the guitar I needed the abalone for, I have between 15 and 20 inches of abalone. I ordered 80 inches because I knew some of it might not be the best colored abalone, and I figured there would be pieces I did not want to use. With the amount he sent, I might be able to put pearl purfling on this uke and only have to order a bit more. What would you all give for a value on the extra abalone he sent me in my order? I would call it free but I am not the sole arbiter of this competition. Here is a pic of the extra bag of abalone. I probably need double to do the whole soundboard.

Thoughts?

You say you have 15 to 20 inches, I say abalone. I say use it.

You paid X amount for all of the abalone, so just figure the cost/inch for all that you got at the price you paid, and apply that to what you use for the uke. You received an extra 25%, so it lowers the cost/inch. If you pay for five board feet of wood but are given seven, it lowers your cost/bf, but it is part of the purchase. That's my take on it, but nobody cares what I think.

By Bryan's genius estimate, I paid nothing. By Alex's really dumb estimate, I paid 37.5 cents per inch. What to do....what to do......

I fitted the neck and drilled a bolt hole. Put in the threaded insert as well.

What size insert and bolt are you using for the neck?

My first comment is how amazed (and a bit amused) I am that you obviouslyy manly luthiers know enough about the Harry Potter stories to name characters and spells they have used. Less importantly, Tony, it looks like a sweet project.....I have to admit to caring just a little bit. pizza

I'm paradoxically delicious!

I glued some sticks of spruce onto the flat piece of koa that will be the back. See?

Women say things like that to me a lot. Little and cute. It's annoying really. Obviously they are talking about my 2 year old. He's little and cute.
I have pics to prove it.
