Great, I've been sticking one of those syringes in my mouth to irrigate after wisdom tooth extraction

And no wise cracks about not knowing one end from the other.

Hmmm...

When I was learning to use hhg I was told to clamp for two hours. OTOH, we also did 'rub' joints for violin backs and tops with no clamps at all, but you had to leave them untouched for at least 2 hrs wile the glue did the clamping. I have gotten full wood breakage on a spruce test sample of a rub joint in only about 15 minutes, but still stay with the 2 hr limit I was taught.

I clamp and leave untouched for 1 hour normally. So far so good, but better safe than sorry as they say.

Thank you Mr Carruth,

to practice with HHG, In your opinion, do you think that the use of a sort of dummy sound box made of plywood would help as well as dry runs before applying it to good wood? I know some veterans here, especially Mario and Brock have said to do my second guitar top with Titebond but my thinking on it is this: if hhg is so scary and is part of a luthier's daily routine, why shouldn't i get accustomed to it right away on a dummy soundbox or two so i get that stupid fear out of the way?

Thank you sir for all your input in advance

Regards

Serge

It's the original vacuum clamp!

Hide glue's the ultimate reversible glue, though; as Mario said upthread, a dry run or four, then try with the hot hide, and if it doesn't go quickly enough/well enough, pull it apart, clean up, try again. Seems like a whole lot less work than building a dummy soundbox for this purpose.Mattia Valente38733.1636111111

Thanks A lot Mattia,

When building my first, i used yellow carpenter's glue and mistakes i made are stuck in it.! Now, i want to do it differently and use the right stuff. I'll remember that part of the HHG being reversible though. And i copied the thread where Mario explains his routine. I promised myself that my second and third guitars will be 10 times better than the first and i'm ready to do what's best since it's going to be a gift for loved ones.
I'm going for it, wish me luck!

Serge
