Its been out there for a while. I'm pretty sure it is in it's 3.0 version.

Alex is correct. It's been out a while. Alex, every time you post using my fillings, it hurts just a little. I'm sure you don't care and will probably use them to post more, but I figured it was worth a shot to tell you.

Have you tried Sensodine toothpaste, or the judicious use of pliers?

Suckitude? Filippo, if I valued what you thought of me, I'd be offended. As it stands, I don't care about anything written in this thread. Especially by me.

I'm so confused now. Off to work on the uke. Might swipe a piece of sand paper across it or something.

With Filippo's scathing criticism of my progress firmly in mind, criticizm that was probably lobbed from a recliner sipping a mojito based on the progress he has made in the last few weeks, I decided to get something done.
My binding channel routing thingy is too deep to use on this uke in the same manner in which I use it on a guitar. Normally, I put the box in the mold and use spacres to hold it up high enough to rout for bindings and purfling. The uke is too thin so I needed to come up with some other method. I ended up clamping it in my bench vise. Pic:
Image

I decided things were going too smoothly so I threw in a little screw up and held the router in the correct position for cutting purfling channels. Only I wasnt cutting purfling channels, I was cutting binding channels. I was not planning on putting purfling on this thing. Please note the screw up by the neck block.

I think I can fix this and tie it into the cat thing. Stay tuned.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it (while wearing your Member's Only jacket and listening to A Flock of Seagulls) Mr. Morelli.

If I cared, I would be very excited to see how this fix is tied into the theme. I'm tempted to admit interest and spin it as my previously mentioned care about your cat. I'm not sure I would get away with it though. There are some pretty smart people here at the OLF, though I'd wager none of them will see this thread.

even out the space from side to side and have a piece of the rosette material glued in and have it disappear into the ninding on either side so the purfling is ONLY in that spot at the neck ! [:Y:]

Well I put the binding on. Not totally happy with how the repair came out so I may do something else, but for now, here is a pic:
Image

Not sure what to do now. I am going to give the repair some more thought.

Well alright. I figured I would begin pore filling while I thought about what to do and also because I figured I would not want to change the repair after I started pore filling, thus finalizing my repair, but here is a pic for you all to ponder the worst repair I have ever done:
Image

That is some abalone and a piece of thick b/w purfling I had on hand. I need to fit two small pieces of pearl into the corners where they meet the binding.
Jeez...seeing it this big makes me realize this was not the best idea I have ever had. My other thought was to fill the whole section with ebony dust and epoxy which would make that area look like thick binding. There is still plenty of time to do that.

Here is a shot of the box with z-poxy on it.

I think you might want to make the curve of the oops smoother and more faired in with the shape of the top of the upper bout no matter what you decide to fill it with. Not sure how you would do that though.

The binding is plastic. I could melt some with acetone and put it in but I think epoxy and black coloring of some sort would be best.

I think as long as you have thickness there it will yell "mistake!" I might consider a wide purfling all around. Perhaps something ropey. Or bwbwbwbwbw. You could also go double cutaway!

I know Randy. The uke is for my cousin who doesn't even know how to play and she already said she doesn't care about the looks of the repair. Problem is, I do. I might have to build her a new one and give this to my kids to screw around with. In the meantime, I don't think I can finish a second uke in time for the deadline of this challenge so I will gracefully accept the fact that I won't be winning. Guess I'll have to buy a killer chisel since I'm not going to win it!
Or I could claim that the repair is supposed to look like the whiskers of a cat!

this is very salvageable. You have the skills , you may not have wanted to but with every mistake come a learning opportunity and you can always add more purfling.
Where you over cut you can glue in some patch then . You can dress it up. Don't let it get you down , look at it as a challenge , don't give up you may learn something that you can use later. A true craftsman know how to hide his mistakes.
