These are all just so AWSOME.

But I think my fav has to be Brad's Pink Ivory. That looks like a sunset to me. So cool.

Watkins, so so cool, is it legal though? Rare Mother of pearl segmented, how'd you do that? And the dinosaur bones made of walnut, thats sheer genius. My My.

Russ, not only do I like the four samples, I love the tops you have those rosettes in. Beautiful wood and work by the way. The Flutterby is my favorite.

Before I started building guitars, I thought spalted wood was spoiled wood. Now, for certain effects I see it brings a premium.

Steve, that is the prettiest spalted rosette I've ever seen. Ambrosia back too.

Russ, what on earth did you use for these beautiful works of art, especially the top left one, is it marble?

Wow this is an amazing thread

Steve, how close are you to finishing that box elder guitar? I can't wait to see that thing.

Serge,

Thanks for the kind words! The rosette you are referring to is made with black and white "turquoise" recon stone. Recon stone comes in all kinds of colors and patterns. Have a look here to see more styles of recon stone.

Thanks for the link Russ,
i guess you asked them to cut'n shape the rosette before you applied it on the guitar or did you shape it yourself and with what did you cut it ?

This in NOT my work. It is Al Carruth's. But I find it inspiring, and, when he shows you how he does it, it's not that hard either. Each element is side grain and not a standard "stick" mosaic.

Serge
Serge,

This material is stone in a resin base and is easily shaped. I shaped the rosette in the picture using some oval-shaped templates and a pin router setup. It does make a LOT of fine dust though, so a good mask is essential when cutting and working it.

Masecraft will also make round rosettes or custom inlay to your specs if you ask them too.

Ron
Ron, thanks for inquiring. The answer--alas--is that I don't know. It's a non-com build, and has been taking a back seat to everything else. When there's nothing else to do, I'll pull it out and do some work on it.
I'll post pix when I get more done.

Steve
