Here are a few shots of the 12 fret dread inching ever closer to being done.
This guitar will be getting a very nice tobacco burst on top, I just cant wait to see it, with the snake wood appointments and Black Acacia back and sides I think the dark burst will pull every thing together.

Nice Lance! I've been thinking about Black Acacia for my next. How have you liked working it?

Also, does that laptop still work?! If it does, you should write the manufacturer with a case study regarding harsh environments!

Alan...I was thinking the same thing. Lance must have a great vacuum system to keep the dust out or it's a workhorse, diehard laptop. But, by the photos, his shop is immaculately clean. Wish I could say the same. Oh..the guitar ain't too shabby either. Nice work Lance.Brazilwood38735.858599537

So far so good on the acacia, it bent real nice, sands like mahogany and is very light weight. I like it.

The laptop does indeed work! Its how I keep an eye on you guys whilst in the shop

I like the slotted tuner setup as well. I'm a fan of that. Did you shape that neck? What inlay material?

We also have birdfeeders out here in Cali - it's just hummingbirds instead of those nice-looking Cardinals. Must be fun to watch!

Looks great, Lance. You know how much I favor 12 Fretters. Keep posting pics as you progress.

BTW, is the bridge placed in the right spot or just positioned for effect? It looks much closer to the soundhole than one normally sees for a 12 fret. What scale length?

Thanks JJ, ya the bridge is just taped on for the picture, the freboard its taped to the neck and still needs trimming etc...

Beautiful inlay! I think when I have this classical thing down, I'll have to start playing around with steel string guitars to have some inlay fun. It's too cool not to try.

Do you cut out your name yourself or do you buy that?

Where is Vandercook Lake? I thought you lived near Jackson. I had a summer romance with a girl from Jackson when my family had a cottage at Lake Columbia (about a 100 years ago). She had gorgeous green eyes! Woo Hoo!

I'm taking my wife to Cadillac in a couple of weeks to learn to ski. I can't wait!

PS Is that pic straight form the camera? I love the spots of color on the B&W background! My sister has been experimentling with that. She recently sent me some samples of her work and it makes for cool effect.

It's a photo of a beautiful tropical tree that grows in the northern part of Brasil and has a unique flower in the spring. The tree is called "Brinco de Moca"...in english "Earring of a young Woman". Thought you might like to add a little warmth to the shop.

No wonder you guys have so much time to build guitars, who'd want to go out in that? Are that poor little birds feet frozen to the perch?

Cold looking to me from here in San Diego where my buddy from Ohio describes the weather as 'room temperature'.

it's gonna be a fancy one The weather in Quebec is almost the same as in Michigan, a whole lot less snow this year than what you have though. I would trade your snow for our freakin' ICE if ya don't mind?

Great looking guitar Lance, I like the acacia also but would love to see the back of that guitar.

Your back yard looks like mine (Except I have no neighbors that you can see) lots a snow, although it is raining now, wadda mess! On the bird front we have been doing a bit of that lately too. I lost two chickens to a pesky hawk this past Saturday! He sure is a good lookin bird though. I need to get a top on my chicken run!

Lance, don't put a burst on the top, please. I know it's a British thing to not like them but, I've never, ever in 40 years seen one that made a good guitar look better.

WEll, its a small bodied Cedar toped guitar

Based on the L-OO, being made for Christene LeDoux. Its going to have mahogany back and sides. One of the goals to this guitar is to make it light as possible.
Well see how it turns out.

Very cool guitar Bro.
I love small guitars and the OLF guitar that I designed is about an 0 and a half but I also do the 12" parlor and a 14" 00. I'm gonna build one for myself one of these days and try to do it as light as I can. No adjustable rod in the neck just CF and slots to keep the headstock light. B/S out of that extreme mahogany curl the Zootman had and a real thin Italian top.

I am a small body lover, too. I have never built a dread! Don't want to.
I built a mahogany L-00 last year, it was very light and sounded great! It makes a great ladies' guitar, the lady I made it for loves it.
The L-00 is a handsome guitar...it isn't the same as the Martin 00, there's a difference...
