Thanks Colin, i'll go check there first and i might send an e-mail to Kathy on that, to know more about the technique because my first joint was a dovetail executed a la Elvis Presley, purdy twisted in the pelvis! YEAH!

Don't know what it is this mornin', but i feel like a king!

i'll keep you updated on her reply!

Serge

I've done mostly flush mount. I drill a hole in the heel and and insert a 1/2 inch hardwood dowel. I use the birch or poplar that my local lumber yard carries. I make sure that the dowel is oriented so that the flat sawn side is facing the inserts.

As for inserts, I use the gray metal, slightly tapered, hex drive kind. I failed to sucessfully install the flat screwdrive driven brass inserts. They always stripped.

To screw them in, I take a straight hex wrench and chuck it into the drill press. I mount the neck, so that the inserts will go in at 90 degress to the pre-angled heel. This is the same setup I used to drill the holes for the inserts. WITH THE POWER OFF, I turn the drill press by hand and lower the wrench which sets the insert.

SimonF, Here is a flush mount or butt joint neck from Mario Proulx's website. Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it's interesting.

I've used the flush mount neck on #'s 2,3 and 4. I like it. I seems there is a lot less "fiddling" than with a M & T. All of the guitars (2 dreds and an OM) sounded good. Besides, from some of the comments I read about Mario's guitars, it can't be a bad thing. With this joint and the secret being out about the PMTE, maybe someday I'll get there.

I do too, like Jimmie I mean...Taylor used to do that, and I figure if it's good enough for them....    Plus, I made all the M/T joints I needed for a lifetime when I built furniture!
