Thanks, Colin. 'Nother question:
What effect does humidity have on the frets--since they are gut?
For that matter, what about hand perspiration?
Or, when you say "gut", do you mean "Nylon"?

OK, that's 3 questions. But closely related.

Steve,

1. I hold them in a little kettle steam before tying, then they dry out very slightly tighter than I can get them so they only relax a small bit in very damp climes. But humidity problems are really not great here.

2. If they get contaminated by perspiration, remember an I'm icy cool guy, then out with the knife and on with a new fret. Easy peasy. They are likely to wear first.

2. No gut means gut. There is a new string called nylgut that is very similar but man made I'll be using that on the new 8-course as it will be a chair side twiddler instrument so staying in tune would be nice.
