See the photos and description of a very fancy guitar I just finished. See the
latest entry at Wellsguitars.com. (I cannot seem to get the web addressed
posted properly-can anyone fix it and e-mail me with the procedure
although I have done it before without problems!)

That's one beautiful guitar, and it sounds like you had very specific
design criteria going into the build. Was this for a client, or did you build
it on spec? On your web site you say the wood was mentioned in an
article in Fine Woodworking back in 1985. How was it mentioned and
what's been happening with the wood since then? How did you come by
it? Did you resaw it? (Sorry for all the questions.)

I'm certain it sounds just as beautiful as it looks.

OK, if anyone has got the sister set to that I want it!

Sylvan that is one gorgeous piece of wood and your extreme artistry has indeed done it a justice which few could match.

Please, please tell me it sounds like a dog, or my jealousy will be complete. Trouble is you know that it is going to sound great.

Colin

That wood has to be from "The Tree"

I love the quilted sapele that we have been buying and stashing away, but this mahogany is really something spectacular.

Nice work Sylvan.

(BTW, I added a link to your original post).

Sylvan, for an "over the top" guitar, it doesn't look over the top. Very tastefully done, and everything works together beautifully.
Congratulations,
Steve

I no longer have the article but what it said was that the tree was felled in
the 60"s but fell into a ravine and could not be recovered with the
equipment they had with them. Twenty years later a crew salvages the
log. It is my understanding that the log yielded about seven boards 2
1/2-3" thick and 20ft+ long. In the early nineties I taught a friend to
build guitars and he had one of the original boards. My deal with him was
I would teach him to make guitars and he would let me resaw a portion of
the board into acoustic sets and whatever we yielded I kept half and he
kept half. Unfortunately, I only have two sets left! So, answering your
question I resawed it in 1994. Craig, I think I answered all your questions!
Brock is right, this is the wood from "The Tree" and thanks, Brock for the
link (I still do not know why I could not accomplish it). The guitar is quite
a cannon and sounds very much like a small body, large soundhole guitar
would except it sounds like mahogany - which I have always thought was
the best sounding tonewood - just not pretty, until now!

Very nice! I really like the binding that is the same color as the body separated by purfling. Very elegant and understated. Also the other appointmenst are just great. Again, very nice, very tasty
