I found this on the Taylor website, and thought it might be of interest here. Shows the Taylor neck joint system which is very similar to the double mortise/tenon joint that's been discussed here, and on John Mayes video.

Andy, try it here and select the video in the bottom right. Taylor actually sent out DVD's explaining their neck joint, and I believe the headstock scarf joint, when it was first introduced.

I did a repair on a Chris Adjustomatic last fall that had a neck adjustment scheme similar to Taylor`s. It relied on string tension and a setscrew in combination with a fulcrum. Very different! I have a couple of not so good pics of that if anyone`s interested.

Did eveyone notice? that the extension is never floating, it is always solid to the block. In a post a couple weeks ago we discussed this issue, and saw examples with floating extensions. Notice on a Taylor, if you change the set-back angle shim on the heal you also have to change the extenion shim as well to keep the extenion in full abd solid contact with the neck block.MichaelP38761.5909143519

looks like a good idea.....sure a lot easier to build in a factory with all those fancy machines!

I think similar can be achieve without the shims but using the double mortise and tenon joint with an extension of the neck running under the FB extenstion!

Just my thoughts!
