All due respect to our illustrious hosts and all but:
I have Comcast hi-speed cable and have sub-second response to 98% of the places I visit on the internet. But when I go to the OLF it's a standard 5-7 second delay. This occurs on the first access and ongoing while I move around the site.

Do other people have this issue or is it just me?

It's slow, as usual, for me. I have dial-up.

Sometimes it'll jam up when changing pages. Refresh will get it moving again for me.

When I'm at home it sometimes just stops working for 5-10mins. While I'm at work I never have a problem.

I have Verizon DSL and it's as fast as most other sites. I always use right-click and 'open page in new window' and that gets me back to the main page a lot faster.

I have Comcast as well! That's what I noticed...That this particular site is way slower than the rest. So is the Tele Forum, which is also unsually slow. Most sites load quickly on my computer...most of the time, excepting during peak hours. Through the Xmas holidays, it was terribly slow...for all sites.

I have DSL at work and Comcast cable at home and the OLF is constantly very fast. Are you using the active topics view? If not give it a try.
Other than that, I have no explanation? We are on a dedicated dell server, purchased just for hosting the OLF, so there are no other sites hogging the system resources.

Alan, patience is a virtue!
My speed is slow, too, but I`m on the cheapest cable connection I can get. How else am I to keep buying into building guitars?

Lance, active topics responds very quickly. Hmmm. Something about parsing all the individual responses below a topic. Thanks for the tip a much faster response!

And....... something that needs to be factored in is your CPU. These pages can get REALLY long and those can take some time to render the pages.

You might also try clearing your temp files from your browser too. Sometimes that helps.

Serge,

I think there has been a problem with the server. The site has been unreachable (at least for me) since about 11pm last night CET, and I couldn't log on till about 3pm today CET.

Ditto. It kind of dissapears off the face of the Internet from time to time, but it's either fast, or not reachable at all.

Always kinda slow for me. And that's on three different computers and three different fast internet connections. Only slow when loading main page mostly.

I was actually beginning to get withdrawal symptoms this morning because the site was down. My stomach was rumbling, and I was get a queasy feeling all over, and light-headed. I was fine after I had breakfast though.

Don...I'm with you. It started with me at midnight last night when I tried to catch up. I tossed and turned all night due to the severe withdrawl effects. This morning's inability to log on severely added to my anxiety throughout the shakes, cold sweats and dry heaves. I'm going through post traumatic stress syndrome myself right now!

Thanks for listening!

I say we all sue for emotional distress, yeh emotional distress, thats the ticket. Well, on second thought, my boss would probably sue me right now for lost productivity. No winners. I'm still betting that Brock tripped on the power cord.

Often get no response for anywhere from several seconds to a few minutes.
I have a fast cable connection and don't get this problem elsewhere.

Very slow for me, always. Takes 10 seconds or longer for the main discussion page to load. This is true both at work and at home, and only for this site. It is true whether browsing in IE or netscape, cookies/caches cleared or not. Fast cable connection at home, big fat pipe at work.

Overall it is a fairly unpleasant surfing experience.

ETA: after posting this, it took me 16 seconds to get back to the Main Discussion forum. rlabbe38769.6256134259
