Finally had a little time to spend on guitars as the day job work load has lightened a bit.

The first thing I did was complete this strat for a friend of mine.

Started with some northern ash and put a decent piece of maple on top.
The bridge is a Hipshot vibrato with their tremsetter installed. Bill Lawrence L500 XL and a Dimarzio stacked single. The tone pot is a push pull to split the coils. Instead of a standard cap for the tone circuit a "Black Ice" cube is installed. Since the new owner is a shredder, the cube was configured to the "industrial" setting.

The trim rings were eliminated with a bit of extra routing from the rear. I left .100" of maple to mount the pickups.

Here is a particularly poor shot of the position markers. Black plastic in a copper tube.

An electro-socket jack cup. Got the lighting right to show the flame (and dust) in this pic.

Some Hip Shot locking tuners.

Last Pic. Knocked the corner off the body to give better access to the high notes.

Now I just have to clean it and a do little hand polishing and off it goes.

Very nice Steven!
The pickup mounting scheme is ingenious.

Thanks guys.
This is the second one with the pickups mounted in this fashion. It won't work if you want a trem and a middle pickup. Best part is it keeps tinkerers from getting the pickups too close to the strings.

Jim, go to Stew Mac to find the ElectroSocket. Bore a 1" hole 1/16" deep and then bore a 7/8" hole as deep as required for your jack.

Thanks Brian and Mike,

Forgot to note that this one has the same varnish on the neck as I use for violins. Satin lacquer polishes up too quickly for this player and needs to be scuffed down to keep him happy. I've had good luck with satin polyurethane but thought I'd give this a try.

Nice! Is that a three or five position switch? Does the pull tap both pickups, like north on the neck and south on the bridge?

Hey Jason,

Three position, only tapping the bridge on this one.
