I'm also looking at building one of these and have a couple of references

http://www.upnorthstrings.com/es335body.pdf

http://www.rmolsonguitars.com/

http://www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/laminatedplates.htm

http://www.smithcreekmandolin.com/archt ... lates.html

I haven't pursued any of these yet (I have purchased some plans, however). If you learn anything please post or PM me - this is a project for later in the year.

smith creek mandolins is new and interesting -
not sure whether i want to go the spruce path as this will be a stage guitar for raunchy rock and blues
i fear the spruce may resonate a little too much and cause feedback around cranked amps
still a way off a decision at this point -

ken mckay's body and neck is the only option from upnorth - he doesn't do kits any more
if i had a few more hundred in budget i would be sorely tempted to buy kens - i have so much on in the workshop -
all i would have to do is shoot the finish, wire, prep and setup
it looks like i will be doing most of the work myself though if my client will stay the distance on the wait time

btw heres another i found that you didnt mention
http://acme-archtops.com/
he does pre-bent sides too - looking quite attractive at this point

There is someone selling old Harmony maple plywood in the classifieds.
You might want to start with a 335 kit from eBay. They are cheap and will likely require lots of finessing to fit/work well. I would also plan on throwing ALL of the hardware and electronics in the garbage too.
But it would be a starting point.

I started making kits again. My son Quinn is taking charge. Email for a kit request form.
