Does anyone know of suppliers for "old growth", ancient, or reclaimed woods suitable for guitar bodies and necks? Looking more for the fender type woods so maple, alder, ash, maybe rosewoods.

I know of other prominent luthiers that claim to build with this wood and was wondering if there were any well-known sources for this kind of thing, or if it's "I know a guy that knows another guy...".

Rosewood will be really hard to find....most reclaimed woods come from building timbers used in barns and old industrial buildings. Alder is not very structural so you likely won't find it either. I have seen maple and ash, along with oaks and chestnut. Most of this wood gets cut into flooring for higher end construction.

Cool, yeah I thought as much. I occasionally read (at least in the copy) about so-and-so using "X" number of years-old woods etc. and wondering if there any reputable sources.

There are woods that have been reclaimed from river beds that were lost from log booms. Lots of that wood is old growth. There are companies that sell these woods, after they have been kiln dried, usually for pretty big dollars. This is a place in Ottawa, but there are many in the USA. http://www.deepriverlumber.ca
