Quite a bit of stuff in the woodshed is sold and it is time to start thinking about gearing up for another edition of this. If you start funneling me pictures I will try to get something up in the next week or so.

How is this working for you guys... I sense it is working well, but I would be curious to hear specific comments.

Something you might try is posting a couple of sets of things you are NOT selling yet on your web site in anticipation of what you are cutting and going to offer next.

I'm in the same boat Bob, but I think my problem is that I have not done anything to the wood surface to highlight the figure. I will retake the pictures with the some finish substance on the wood to bring out the figure. Any suggestions on a good product for this that will not impact a future finish used by the end user? If these sets don't sell I am not too concerned, I kept one for myself and it wouldn't hurt my feelings to keep 3 of these subperb acacia sets.

Pictures are my weak point-they never seem to do the wood "justice".
I have the same question about putting a finish on the wood.
I have tried naptha, but don't like it.
I use shellac on the snakewood fretboards and bridge blanks since these are thicker parts.

It has been my observation that the things that have been selling in the woodshed are the REALLY fantastic sets. The BRW seems to sell well, Doug sold those 2 sets of flamed macassar ebony, Brad sold a nice set of BRW, the quilted hondo mahogany... and that is just what I can remember.

I would try to experiment with the very very high end woods, stuff that is hard to command the price for sight unseen.

and yes, I think to sand it nice and put a thin coat of finish (or at least naptha) on it would help.

regarding pictures.... I have had pretty good luck using a scanner too. If you wipe a board with naptha and put it on a flat bed scanner and scan the image it usually gives you very nice detail of grain and figure. That could be an option if you don't have your camera mastered.

I've been using Oderless Mineral Spirits for about two years now. I brush it on then wipe with paper towels so it doesn't look wet which would cause glare. I draw the body outline after wiping with white grease pencil. After taking the pic's I put the set in front of a box fan and it evaporates the Mineral Spirits. I havn't had a single complaint yet.
