Is there a guitar building competition taking pace in this forum or was that just a rumor I heard?

Rumor as far as I know. Now we have two community builds going on. Build #1 is a thank you gift to Lance for his service and this fourm. Build #2 is a reconision gift to someone else for their contrabution to luthierie. Their name is being withheld to keep it a secret. These are not in competition.MichaelP38782.537037037
I heard there was a guitar building contest and the winner got to go to a two week class on building.
Shouldn't the loser of such a contest get to go to the two week class on building?

The only competition here is self-imposed--trying to achieve the quality other Forum members have reached, and trying to make "this" one the "best" one. All winners, no losers!

Amen...Carlton!

I teach at a public school with this philosophy. It is very difficult to convince parents and children that we mean it.

I will not say a word,.... I will not say a word.... I will not say a word, just for you Lance... and all my other brothers and sisters out there armed to the teeth with 9" chisels....I will not say a word

This is meant only as humor by the way. I don’t do politics on the forum MichaelP38782.6828356481

There are a number of us that are simultaneously members of more than one forum, to try to tap into the greatest number of minds possible. There are some great minds that for one reason or another, mainly or strictly hang out in one forum or another, and people like me willing to sneak back and forth across the Berlin wall to glean as much luthier info as possible.

I'm a contestant in the "Build-Off" on the luthierforum, and I have already won. I declare myself "a" winner (not "the" winner), because it just happened to be the spark I needed to get off my butt, stop planning, and actually build a guitar. I'm almost done with my first guitar. And, what's really important here, is that in that guitar are hints, suggestions, and knowledge gleaned from this forum's members and from that forum's members, and other forum's members (and a few books, and guitarmaking classes at a community college...)

This is a great forum, with a LOT of activity, and a LOT of very experienced professional luthiers and advanced amateur luthiers offering to share their advice. You'd be crazy not to pull up a chair, and become a contributing member here. If you simply want to compete, or (like me) are the kind of personality that would benefit from a specific deadline to "force" you to "get off the pot", then you may be interested if another "Build-Off" starts up in 2006 on the luthierforum. Martha is right: It's all good!

By the way, the prize to Cumpiano's school was simply raffled off, and will not go to the winner of that competition.

Lance is obviously doing something right, to attract such a buzz from a diverse mixture of builders, from beginners to master luthiers. Like I said, you'd be crazy not to take advantage of this community's knowledge base, and to share in the camaraderie.

(I think I may have exceeded my $0.02, so I may owe a buck or two!)

Dennis

Being rather new here, I might have missed it. What made this forum "official". Was there some lutherie control board or something that bestowed that title, or is it just something self proclaimed

Not trying to stir anything up, but I always feel more comfortable understanding the reason behind things. Just the way I function, I guess

Grant

Yes, it was proclaimed that, sort of tongue-in-cheek. Lance knew there were bunches of forums out there, but Lance wanted one with a dry sense of humor....

No.

I had one that went over 70...in a split second.
The wall stopped it rather abruptly though...

I like the community “feel” of this Forum. It is amazing to me that folks from all over our planet can log in to this little “town” and feel at home sharing Ideas, wood addiction and building tips etc.. As far as Competition gos, I call it inspiration!
Thanks folks!
