I have been looking for a National guitar that is a player and not a collector candidate for a few years. Finally found one.It needs some repair on the joints between the backs and sides. Looks like it might have originally be done with silver solder. Basically the guitar is pretty trashed, so I'm not worried about changes affecting the value. It's a brass body that was stripped of the finish and partially painted red. Originally. it is a M3 Tricone from the WWII era, it was probable painted a somewhat unattractive, to me, yellow. So, any feedback on doing the solder repair? Has a couple of miscellaneous small holes in the body too. Thanks, Bob

Silver solder requires much higher heat than normal solder, which is what I bet was originally used on the body. You should be able to determine what kind of solder was originally used by seeing how hot you have to get it to melt some of the original stuff.
