Groan. So many ways you can ruin a headstock doing this.

I really miss the woodworkers club I was in at the last house.... They had some great scroll saws.. And they make quick and clean work of headstock slots. Not like using a router - where disaster is rolling at 25,000 rpm.

Last one I did on a milling machine. Doesn't get much easier than that. Unfortunately I traded off the milling machine

Drat. A mill... Fresh out. :(

On to plan B... Drill a few holes here and there, router out some waste, pare with chisels to clean up after the router, and sanding sticks to make everything look like I meant it to look that way...

Thanks

Here's a shot of the neck with the 2nd coat of varnish.

Now - it's just the boring part... Paint, sand, paint, sand...

John, nice pics, but it would be nice if you could increase the resolution or size a little. Every time I try to zoom in to see that gorgeous wood it just looks like a big Fuzz. Thanks!

Are they still out of whack when you click the thumb nails and it takes you to the Postimage site?

Ok so in Tapatalk on my mobile device, it just blows the thumbnail up and is not even really viewable. But on desktop, it takes me to the hosting site where they are big and I can see much better. However they still tend to be out of focus somewhat where you cant see the detail all that good.

I will have to take credit for the sharp perfect focus of all the junk on my bench and the blurry pictures of the guitar.

If I can get my toes in the picture - will that help. ;)

It's time for some frets.

Here's the prepped fretboard.

And whack - in go the frets.

I cleaned up the fret ends and got the neck final fitting done.

I glued down the neck last night. Everything went as planned.

Tonight I will see about getting the tail piece mounted and the nut/bridge going.

Should be ready to play here soon.

Here's a teaser. What's this? Yes - a guitar.

Image

Strings are on. The setup is about 30% right now and this is a test bridge. I will start working on the real bridge probably tomorrow. The goal here is to see how much the top sinks - so I can make a proper bridge and not have to shim it up a bunch.

The frets also need a good level and crown... Lots of work left to do... But I got to play it tonight a bit.

Thanks.

Here's the guitar being played at our regional Teen Talent competition. The new owner Jacob came in first in his age bracket for instrumental. He is one talented kid.
