Or.... Why I didn't work on a guitar this weekend: as follows...

FRIDAY/ Didn't happen, a bomb scare at my son's JR. High School rearranged my day. So we did what we were going to do on Saturday today. We'll do on Saturday what we were planning to do Friday.

There was no bomb. But 700 students were out of school for the entire day. I feel sorry for the kid that called that one in. Especially if it was from his cell phone or his home phone.

SATURDAY/ Well Saturday morning found us enroute to Texas, an emergency trip the the bedside of a dying neice, liver failure. Drugs and alcohol were involved. By the time we arrived, she'd made a miraculous recovery. It was dark by the time we got home.

On the road trip home, alongside an 18 Wheeler Tanker Truck, what sounded like a gunshot rang out. Then, tremendous road noise and my thirteen year old whimpering from the rear of the car. The side glass on the passenger door had shattered into a million and one pieces, all over the back seat and my son. There was no gunshot, probably only a rock thrown up by a wheel.

The driver pulled over and was great, as we looked everything over and swept the glass out of the car. It appeared it was just a freak accident. No evidence of anything amiss.

My son was actually playing his acoustic and had moved to the center seatbelt. As a result of his position, he avoided glass in his eyes or skin. Much of the time I've looked back to see him leaning his head against the same window sound asleep.

Needless to say, we were counting our blessings. Our niece recovering from near fatal liver failure, and our son preserved from bodily harm just inches from his face and particularly his eyes. The wife was grousing about her car window, but I said, "You just absolutely have to look on the bright side."

I said all that to say this, my Saturday got gone too, no guitar work that day. I generally don't work on Sundays in my shop. Lastly, they caught the kid who called in the bomb threat. He and his girlfriend thought it would be fun to get out of school for the day. Charges are pending. Ignorance gone to seed.

Friday, my son and I made it to the mountain cabin and took inventory of and selected boards from the barn for resawing. We loaded black walnut, cherry, pecan, and catalpa, all native species for future guitars.

How'd your weekend go? Ours turned out really well!

Guitars on Monday.

Wow, I'm so thankful that your son is not hurt. What a weekend, sounds like it should have been a Monday.

Very little work done in the shop for me. Going out there tonight.

Hey, back at Thanksgiving I met David Crowder's brother Steve again. He was ram-rodding a crew of 80 folks from his church putting together 400 boxes of food for the less fortunate. Small world. He is a youth pastor locally. What a slave driver though, I could barely get the forklift back to the line before it was filled.
Must be a really cool family those Crowders. We loaded a Semi Trailer in under 45 minutes and went home.

I second that, good that you counted your blessing!

It was 75-80 degrees, sunny, humidity around 40% down here in the great State of Texas this weekend and I must admit, I got the Spring fever on Thursday, stopped working and spent Thursday, Friday, Saturday and a little today from wake up to the evenings in my shop. It was wonderful. Cranked up some good Bluegrass mixed with some Austin sound acoustic guitar playing and had a ball. I did nothing but carve bridges. I would design one, cut it out and off and away with my Dremmel and sanding wheels. Came up with some pretty nice looking pieces, some were pretty nasty. I've been working on some unique designs that I could call my very own and plan to use them on my projects sitting around the shop at some stage of partial completion.

My only interuption was one of my Grand children tripped and broke her leg after church today, freak tripping accident, she is just over a year old. She is fine, smiling and likes her little cast. She is our youngest and pretty, pretty, pretty.

Not your post Mike, that's too bad about your grand daughter. Glad she's smiling though.

Thanks for the great lessons to learn from your stories Bruce and Mike.

Getting angry or upset seems like the easy way to go sometimes, especially when we're tired or being more emotive for any kind of reasons. OTOH, some other times, we kind of hear a calmer inner voice that invites us to follow the positive wisdom of life that helps us heal.

I'm glad everything turned out right in the end for both of you and family.

Regards

Serge

Pretty exciting weekend, Bruce. Glad all is OK. Sounded kinda like a soap opera for a while.

Mike, poor little pumpkin', my heart sank when I read your post. I have an 8 month old daughter, and a 4 and a half year old son as well. She'll be taking her first steps soon enough... I'm just happy she's smilling now and that she'll never remember it happening.

Bruce, I'm also very happy that your son wasn't hurt. Life is full of instances like that. Close calls and luck... Let's all keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Thanks Bruce, and I am glad that all in your family is well after this experience. Have fun in the shop!

Update on my Grandaughter #4, she saw the Orthopedic today and they put her in a pink permanent cast that will be on for about 3 week, they heal really fast. The Doc said it is pretty common, which shocked me, I though kids bones were like rubber at this age. It happens when they fall and twist at the same time, the twist is what does the damage. All is well, she sat there like a big girl during the whole process without a tear. Her NeNe (what they all call my wife) held her during the process. I went by and saw her this afternoon and she was just as happy as could be, just a little frustrated with the movement thing.

Thanks

Mike

I was driving next to a semi and got hit in the head by a piece of the tire! It almost took me out. It bounced around for a while! The piece of tire, not my head!
