Could someone provide contact info for Axiom? I'd like to look at their version of the darker material.

Thanks,

Jim

Bill James is a really nice guy and the bindings are nice. The only bummer with these is that they now have to be shipped under a hazmat sticker and that is a +$20 fee on top of the shipping. But what 'cha gonna do... However the bindings are nice and have that really traditional tortise look. I am just glad to have found them after StewMac got out of the game.

However, I wanted some other color options... that is why I am thinking about these Tor-Tis bindings.

I am not sure. I emailed John Greven again today. As soon as I hear back I will make a post. Hopefully he is into cooking up a big batch or two of these.

I'm going to see John tonite. I'll ask him about this order. Is there a final tally
of sorts yet?

Not really, I think we will need quatity break points and costs to firm this up.

If you would mention it to him that would be great. Thanks.

I would like also some wider stuff for end grafts...is that a possibility? I'm thinking in the neighborhood of 20 pieces too, depending on price.

That's good thinking Don. I was primarily thinking for my electrics, but it would be a good idea to have some of that too.

If the binding is the same as LMI use to get from John
Be careful it dried out and fell to pieces.

Good to know. Was that the Tor-Tis material?

It is definately fragile, even shaping a pickguard one must carefully support it or it'll crack. It's not really made to be flexible and what I have seen of the pickguards it is pretty thin. Now I don't mean to belittle the stuff, it's great pickguard material and I use it myself for that purpose. It would look good as binding/purfling if it works but I think I'd take a closer look and be sure John knows what you will use it for before spending a lot of money. Actually it is so fragile that I would not use it for bindings. I would probably be tempted to use it as backlit purflings but the edge of a guitar needs something to resist dings and tor-tis is not it. Just My HOJohn How38793.7684837963

I wonder if he could alter the mixture to make the material more pliable,
and less brittle. I wonder if that would help, or maybe it just would not
set up...I, obviously, don't know what I'm talking about here. I would, if
the stuff worked well, be very interested.

Bah. Time for some of y'all to blaze your own, new trails, and report back....

Something about "paying your dues" or something like that...

Heck, maybe they've got a new batch of chemicals that will work better this time. It would be so nice if it worked.

Another consideration is how Tortis will react to the vast amount of different finishes, sealers, glues etc... Seems to me that the binding material we are using now has been been proven to be tried and true even though you do have to pay the darn HazMat fees. Don't want to rain on the parade either but just some other things to think about.

The hazmat fee is not the problem. It is the color. I was looking for a wider range of choices.
