Bought cheap as san Domingo or central American rosewood. Originally from a retiring cabinet maker. Feels relatively light and soft and large pores. Good taptone more woody than glassy. Thinking if it is dalbergia it's probably tucerensis, just not as pink as the piece I have already. Just trying to post pictures with the app.
Thanks ask.

I have some Madagascar (non-rio type) that looks like that. But not American, so not much help.

That looks more like Palisander to me but that would be the wrong continent.

The cabinet maker called it Sam Domingo but the luthier supply thought it was more likely central American rosewood. What is palisander?

That’s rosewood, which is called Palisander in Europe, genuine species Dalbergia, more specific Dalbergia Tucarensis, sometimes also spelled Tucurenis, know as San Domingo Roswood, or Guatemala Rosewood

That’s my opinion...based on having resawn about 250 back and side sets of this wood.

I have some that looks exactly like that. Was sold to me as Dalbergia Cubilquitzensis. I also have some sold to me as Tucarensis that is very very similar.
I've made a few guitars with the wood- good stuff.

I was referring to Dalbergia Baronii from Madagascar but like I said, wrong continent.

I believe those species are considered synonyms. I also have some tucarensis that looks just like the photo. Of all the Brazilian RW substitutes, it is my favorite. The browner examples seem to be sourced from Guatemala, while the lighter pink/orange is from Panama.
