Hey Gang...

I'm introducing a Dreadnought to my current line of TWO styles (actually I have another one coming out along with the dread)...

So for my names I've chosen locales around the globe, the Classicals are called 'Cremona's' after the legendary city where a number of famous Violin makers came from over the past couple of hundred years (and they still make classicals and violins there today).

The OM is called a 'Rio Grande' invoking a western theme..

I have a new SJ coming out that I'm calling the 'San Jose' model, not sure why I chose it but it just seemed to fit (maybe it was the beer I was drinking when this one meandered into my brain).

So now what to call the dread, it's based on the Martin D-28 designs, those things are MONSTERS.. man are they big. I wanted something that would make you think of texas, guys strumming guitars or country playes with gold plates for a belt buckle

I'm open to ideas, comments, criticisms (well maybe) or anything else you can throw my way. No prizes for this one except the fact that you helped a fellow luther solve another technical problem

Maybe it is just me but I don't like the city names too much, but I do like
your western theme since that is what your going for. Not saying that I
could come up with something better.. but maybe the Lone Star, Alamo
(no that is a car rental place), or something texas related, but not a city
per se..... if I HAD to choose on of your choice.. I would prolly pick San
Antonio...I guess...

I picked the Dallas because it begins with a D. You could call it your SD. Which sounds more like a guitar designation. SD would stand for Sam Dallas. I've always lamented that lack of a Sam Dallas since there was a Sam Houston and a Sam Austin. Though people might think that SD stood for Slope Dread and that could lead to some mis-understandings. Othere cities that begin with a D:

Denver - I like this better than Dallas
Detroit - Detroit ain't an acoustic guitar kinda place.
Daytona - Appeals to stock car fans.
Dayton, Duluth, Des Moines, Decatuar, Dearborn - ?

How about calling it the "rio Grande". Something about the word grande that implies greatness.

Dallas sounds good to me.

Well, since I grew up in Lubbock Texas I learned Texas history as a kid. Texas is named after the Tejas Indian Tribe. pronounced TAY Hass, ha, like the laugh.... So how about the Tejas Model?

Then of course there is the most famous music town in Texas, Austin. Ever heard of Austin City Limits comes on late night Saturdays on PBS, right there in Austin.
So another suggestion is the Austin Model.

Now Paul, if that doesn't cut it, how about the Caprock Model? When I was a kid, I was on the edge of the caprock, formed when dinosaurs still roamed the countryside. My dad took me to a farm on top of the rim. I stumbled into a depression, bigger that both my feet, it was a set of dinosaur feet impressions. So real Texicans from that area would sure recognize the name.

Then the last suggestion I have, The Great Plains model. The great plains stretch across many states and are famous as the area where great herds of Buffalo roamed. An American Bison was a noble beast and made the old nickels cause folks liked them I guess. So, that's my two cents. Now I gotta go cut some braces.

As a native Texan, I can come up with a lot more names for you. Why not San Angelo, Abilene or Amarillo (cow towns), Guadeloupe (as in the highest mountain), Goliad (massacre site like the Alamo), San Jacinto (where Texas kicked *&$), Brazos or Pecos (rivers) or even El Paso. If it has to be "D" go for Del Rio. You could also consider Stephen Kinnards stomping grounds, Nacadoches, the oldest town in Texas I believe. By the way, there is a Sam Houston but it is Stephen F. I dont't like the city names either. but with the same conintation in mind, they call Dallas The Big "D". It is a D model after all. That works better in mho

I like Dallas, my wife likes Austin so I think it's come down to those, Rio Grande is already taken. I like Brocks idea to, that's my kind of thinking...

But I think I'll call it the Dallas model, just sounds western to me.

I'll run it by the evil money Baron and see what she thinks

Well, Michael beat me to it. As usual. My vote--and Paul, I'm going to share this w/ you in a truly magnanimous state of mind-- is that you call it your "Big D". I've been saving that for use on my own 12-fret dread, but what the hey, why don't you use it? Sounds like you're ready to go, and I'm probably years off from actually doing it.

And as for the use of the name of my stomping grounds--way too complicated for a guitar's name. By the way, it's "Nacogdoches". Try inlaying that somewhere.

Hahahahaha you guys are too funny, I liked Johns about Alamo, I thought of that too but I also thought of Davey Crockett dying there and tossed it out, the car rental place never entered my thoughts :)

Well, you could rename the whole line--so as to leave the right impression. The "Big D', the "Little a", the "Double L", and then the "AS" model. Do you think you'd have to be from Texas to get that?
