Putting aside gear ratio what are the differences between Gotoh's 3 series of 510 gears? I'm assuming weight is one difference. Maybe internal gear size? Any functional differences in using with acoustic guitar? Are the smaller gears primarily for electric guitars and their lower tension?

I use gotoh 510 minis on everything but my baritone model and then only because the minis look out of proportion with the longer scale. Functionally the minis are very smooth and accurate. I also personally like the more modern look. If someone was interested in a more traditional look the GOTOH SXN510V-06Ms are the way I’d guide them. J De Rocher installed these on his new dreadnaught. They looked good and had a smooth accurate operation, and at half the price of Waverlys....

Best, M

Michael, thanks for your comments. I have looked at those with interest since I detest press-in bushings. That being said, I have yet to find an open back gear that in the same league as sealed 510s. Still hoping someone can differentiate between the sizes of Gotoh 510s.

The Japarts website has schematics with dimensions for the three sizes under the individual listings:

And I've been waiting for my black 21:1 Gotoh's since last August.
