Hey Ernie hope you are doing well my friend.

I went with two lab thermometers at about $8.00 each from a scientific supply house. Tape them both to the edge of a work bench use a shop vac to draw air over the bulbs, wrap one thermometer's bulb in a wad of cotton and get a chart off the Internet and Uncle Bob is your uncle.

We also have psychodynes, three of them which is a glorified couple of lab thermometers with a battery powered fan and it does the same thing. The psychodyes we found on eBay but I have no idea if anyone is still selling these. The ones we had were surpass property of Bendix Aerospace and 3M.

If you go the lab thermometer route folks advised me to get mercury thermometers which were difficult to find IIRC. I did find them though.

Hope this helps.

My question is about the fan. In the past I used one thermometer. I took a reading, then added wet cloth and placed it in front of the output of my air filter and waited for the temp to stop dropping. I grew tired of waiting for the temp to stabilize so I got one of those inexpensive models with two thermometers where one has a wick that goes into a small reservoir of water. In theory, the wet bulb is always wet and always evaporating so the temp reading should be stable (as long as there is water in the reservoir. The advantage was that I could just look at the two temperatures any time I want. Do I really need to be blowing air past them?

Follow up . checked amazon and they have a number of psychrometers , but they are all digital . Have any of you purchased one and if so which model ??? thanks. On a side note .our new house on a slab is very damp here in OKC , now I have to pay a large fee for mold mitigation in the bsmt joists at our old house due to the abundant rainfall in LS MO. So this humidtiy issue really is important.
