I want to take an opportunity to thank Lance for this wonderful venue for the sharing and exchange of information.

And after being bullied by another forum about needing to be a "Paying sponsor" to even list that I am a pro Luthier beside my name I would really like to thank Lance for keeping this place an example of the spirit of modern Lutherie by not resorting to extortion to fund this place.

As such I would like to make a contribution to help with the server bills. I am sure others may as well. So I am hoping Lance can provide a way for us to do this. A paypal address or a link from the forum?

Can someone link to the Patreon account? I’ve been giving a small monthly contribution for a few years, but I think you can give a larger one-time contribution.

9 patrons giving $29 a month. Could be cool if we can double that (or more)!!

A Donate link makes perfect sense. I thought there was one at some point.

Jolly good idea. I'm already subscribing to the classifieds but would not mind giving a bit more. I'll do it when I get back home from where I’m now, because Patreon insists on sending a verification code to my cell, which is not a valid number in France...

Wow! There are only 9 of us donating through Patreon, I've been donating monthly for years now. I'm surprised the number is that low.

Thanks Brian for bringing this up. I agree that this forum is a tremendously valuable resource that merits our support.

Thanks Brad for the Patreon link.

For anyone that wants to donate monthly (it can even be a dollar a month!), the details are here: viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=49487

Same for me, John. I can skip a Starbucks once a month to help the OLF! Actually, I still get the Starbucks anyway, but still.... :D

I was very unaware about this possibility. I'd support a "Donate via Patreon" button.

I support this site by joining the classified section each year, I also was a patreon supporter and many times Lance sold wood to support the site or whatnot I have bought. At one time there was quite an expense to host a site like this. Now it can be hosted for about $14 a month, add in something like sitelock to keep it clean maybe $30/ month. I personally am a bit uncomfortable with straight donations as this is run as a commercial site with paid membership for classified (both user and seller) and sponsors. I do like the site and as I said I support it with the classified membership and buy from the sponsors. If the site was not run as a commercial site I would be quite happy to be a patreon donor. If ever needed or requested to maintain the site I would be happy to donate.

Well said and very logical. I decided to donate since I gain a lot of valuable information from this forum. I felt like by donating monthly it was sort of payback for the great advice (like a commercial subscription). You're obviously giving this forum more money each month than I am so you are obviously a stand-up guy.

I am with Brian on this. Always happy to pay my way for a great resource.

The Patreon site doesn't work for me - I wonder if it is an international thing. So a Paypal account would work really well - a system I have used to support other useful web sites.

Cheers Dave M

Thanks for starting this thread Brian, I couldn't agree more.

Lance is just the opposite from the forum host you mentioned. No matter how hard it is for him to keep the boat afloat, he hardly ever turns to the membership for help. In fact it is usually difficult to find a way to pitch in.

Patreon uses Paypal for the monthly donation.

Worked for me, I'm in UK.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
