Hi,

Revisiting an early build as was never happy with the crappy bindings and poly finish, I have removed all the old finish and sanded the spruce down a fair bit, but i can still see the mark where the scratch plate was, any ideas how this has happened?

Differential darkening of the spruce likely from UV light would be my guess.

Exactly, leave the top in the sun for a bit, should even out.

Interesting. I've never seen something stain something else lighter. Then again in today's world of politics, I suppose it's possible ...

As Mr. Smith suggests, the pick guard acted as a UV filter, resulting in less UV-related darkening under the guard than outside it. If the difference is very moderate, then exposure to UV will help even things out, but it will take a while.

Leave it under a flouro, it'll turn fast.

But, easier to just leave it. Do the work and put the pg back in the same spot...
